I have an aversion to spending money. Internationally renowned as being an utter tightwad, I still find it difficult to understand just how I never seem to have any disposable income, and yet never see my personal wealth and assets increase exponentially. It isn't as though the hoarded bullion gets frittered away on such easy-to-forget things like chocolate, crisps, sandwiches from the shop at lunch, dodgy hedge fund investments or anything along those lines. It just never seems to be present from the off. So the burning question that I urgently need to put to the finest financial minds in the country is: Why am I not rolling in lucre if I don't spend any?
After some careful consideration, I have decided that as the finest financial minds in the country can't even manage to navigate their way through a minor crisis without it all falling down round their ears, even if they manage to negotiate a mammoth 'pension' for themselves, so I'll analyse the figures myself. And it seems that I lose out due to... Gig Tickets. Yes, indulging in my favourite bands is expensive. Take the latest Dream Theater show, for example. One of my bestest bands in the whole world, coming over for a few shows in summer, supported by Frost, a band that my drum teacher used to play with. Tickets a snip at £27.50. Quick as a flash, using the wonders of the WorldWideInterwebby thing, I click to purchase 3 tickets for myself and 2 other fans. I am escorted at once to the ticket website known as Ticketmaster, whom proceed to sell me the 3 tickets I desire. Each ticket is accompanied by a 'service charge' that Ticketbastard add on to the tune of £4.75. That makes a grand total of £32.25 each. Added to that, the great folks at Ticketbastard now like to employ a delivery method of 'e-ticket', which means that they'll e-mail you a link that has your tickets on it, and from there you can print out your own tickets, saving them any postage fees at all, and getting you to use your own printer ink and paper. And for this they like to charge you £1.50.
Think I'll put my dreams of having silly money on hold if I find another two gigs this year to go to...
